Mother Road by Octavio Solís

A STAGED READING

Directed by MÓNICA SÁNCHEZ

Please join us for a staged reading of the acclaimed play, Mother Road by Octavio Solís. Solís reimagines a legacy of Steinbeck's classic, The Grapes of Wrath. In MOTHER ROAD, William Joad's search for an heir leads him to the last surviving descendant of Tom Joad: Martín, a young Mexican American whose existence challenges everything he believes about family and identity. Their road trip from California to Oklahoma becomes a journey through the United States’ past and present, toward a new vision of what the country could be.

Octavio Solís, originally from El Paso, Texas, is a preeminent contemporary playwright, author and director.

Dreaming Los Dreamers

BY FUSION STAFF WRITER, RUDOLFO CARRILLO

Los Dreamers is a play by Mónica Sánchez, a notable, au courant playwright with New Mexican roots whose work upon the boards can be traced back to the fabled and legendary Albuquerque theatre company, La Compañía de Teatro de Albuquerque, as well as the foundational work she did as theatre director at Working Classroom. Los Dreamers recently had a very successful run at the University of Oregon, and Sánchez has returned to Burque to continue her sage and engaging work on the stage and within our community.

Los Dreamers will be featured as a staged reading at FUSION on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 7:00 PM. That’s important news for the theatre community, the arts universe as viewed from the FUSION campus, and of course, for you, dear reader, always on the lookout for provocative, progressive and poignantly vital performance experiences here in the 505 and beyond.

In January, our lead artist/facilitator Monica Sánchez brought her workshops WRITING IN SPACE to Mexico City. @awakenartistretreat @hechaleproductions

Not as a method,

but as a living practice.

The Viewpoints became a map of body and spirit.

Time folded.

Memory moved.

Text emerged from breath and impulse.

Through mindfulness and somatic exploration,

actors discovered how story travels,

through energy,

through gesture,

through imagination.

The actor is a conduit,

for story,

for emotion,

for collective truth.

Embodied practice.

Creative writing.

A deep exploration of The Viewpoints.

Staged Reading

“We each must become like fishermen and go out onto the dark ocean of mind and let your nets down into that sea.”  ~Terence McKenna

This workshop is designed to allow us drop in to a place where we can create without judgment or preconception, circumventing the linear, rational mind; allowing awareness to expand and mine the wells of memory, imagination and the subconscious.

We will venture into writing that emerges from exercises based in Fornesian (María Irene Fornes) and other methodologies grounded in visualization, mindfulness, somatic awareness, and chance.

This workshop invites the playwright to broaden the possibilities of storytelling in the theatre through cultivating or deepening a practice in service of discovering and mining the gifts and provocations of the subconscious mind.
