The imagination through metaphor makes the bridge that at once separates and joins matter and spirit.... The metaphor, or the symbol, heals because it speaks to the total person...Without the metaphor, the mind may be fed, but the imagination and heart go hungry.         ~Marion Woodman

Artist Statement

As a theatre-maker

I’m striving to understand

to translate

and to transform

the metaphor of the world

through the world of metaphor.

My creative ground zero is process.

Ideally, it begins and ends

with presence,

a respect for the wisdom of the body,

for the subconscious

and the collective unconscious--

as catalyst to

provoke our presumptions

and assuage our sorrows.

To be present

on either side of the stage

during a performance is

akin to throwing down the gauntlet

to the cell phone,

to the computer,

to the car...

all things that compartmentalize

and isolate us.

Connection.

Following an impulse towards (comm)unity.

This is why I make theatre.
